SSL/TLS Downgrade Attack
A TLS downgrade attack attempts to force a connection to use an older or weaker protocol or cipher so that protections are reduced.
Mechanism
The attacker manipulates negotiation or relies on legacy compatibility paths. Modern protocol versions and downgrade protections are designed to make this harder.
Indicators to watch
Connections negotiating obsolete protocol versions or weak cipher suites, unexpected TLS alerts, handshake anomalies, and policy violations in TLS telemetry.
Concept diagram
Defensive controls
Disable obsolete protocols/ciphers, enable modern TLS versions, use HSTS where appropriate, monitor TLS configuration, and keep cryptographic libraries patched.
Recommended security control
TLS configuration scanner
Use a private test endpoint to compare secure and intentionally weak configurations.

Defence techniques for this attack will be added by the administrator.
